Eastern Mediterranean Pizzas (Baking with Julia)

So you know the saying 'if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all'? Well that pretty much sums up my feelings about this week's pick, Eastern Mediterranean Pizzas. This will be a short post.

I thought I would love it but this was seriously one of the blandest things I have ever eaten. It's my own fault really, for not tasting and adjusting but I was in a hurry and thought I would just trust the recipe. Big mistake. It was bland to the point of being inedible, even topped with a dollop of greek yoghurt and a scattering of coriander. It also wasn't helped by the fact our lamb mince was incredibly greasy.

I can see the potential though, so if I were to attempt these again I would at least double the cinnamon and all-spice and also add some ground cumin and coriander and probably chilli flakes as well.

Hopefully others had more success!

  1. Same with us. We used very pepery rocket salad to spice things up

  2. I am so sorry it was not a winner for you: after all that work.
Hope you'll have more success with the next one.

We loved it, but I had to add herbs and spices to the topping.

  3. It certainly looks beautiful! I wonder why so many recipes in this book are on the bland side. I chose to skip this recipe - just wasn't feelin' it.

  4. I used a slightly different recipe for toppings, which used pomegranate molasses. It probably helped to "spice" things up, and we liked the pizzas. Hope the next recipe works out better for you!

  5. Sorry it wasn't a winner. My cinnamon is crazy strong, so that might have helped. But the pita dough itself is great. I'd make the pita themselves again for sure.

  6. Bummer.
I just can't bring myself to eat lamb, so I didn't feel too bad about changing this one up. I saw that some people substituted ground turkey and liked it - that sounds like a potential win.

  7. We added hot pepper flakes too. And when that wasn't enough, I threw on some feta for a little more zing. After all, it is supposed to be a pizza, right? What's a pizza without cheese?
